"Dracula"
performed by the American Drama Group Europe
On 15th October 2016,we, four Year 10 groups of the Casimirianum, went to the "Kongresshaus" to watch a play called "Dracula".
At first we did not know exactly what this performance would be like and we were a little bit confused. In one English lesson we had read a short summary of the content and we could not imagine how the actors would combine the old story of the famous vampire, Count Dracula, and today`s themes like climate change and pollution. When we arrived, the play began in an uncomplicated way and a woman who played a cleaner amused us with funny comments. In the whole play all the different characters were played by only four actors, so the cleaner disappeared soon and with her the cheerful ambience, too. In the rest of "Dracula", the atmosphere was dark and dangerous - apart from some small periods when, for example, a truck driver made the audience laugh with his jokes. The stage with only some black boxes which served as scenery accompanied that oppressive impression of a post-apocalyptic world with oil fracking and dark persons.
Although the play was acted out well, we found the content partly incomprehensible and the ending was a little bit disappointing. Nevertheless, watching a play performed in English was a worthwhile experience for us.
